Quick Start Guide
Search for a lesson
- Keyword: use the search box at the top of the Lessons/Activities page to enter keywords, and then click on the Search button (just like you would use an internet search engine).
- Advanced Search: click on the Advanced Search link to the right of the Search button to reveal more options, including subject area and grade level. When used with keywords, Advanced Search gives you more targeted results. For example, you may enter Greece in the search box, then choose Ancient History and Grade 6 from the drop-down menus, and click on the Search button to get a more focused list of results. To search for grade-specific lessons, make sure the keyword search box is blank and that the Subject drop-down menu says “Select a Subject”, then choose the grade level in the last drop-down menu.
- Filters: After searching by Keyword, Subject and Grade, filters will appear on the left side of the screen. This is a very powerful and helpful tool. You can use these filters to further define your search results. Start with either a Subject or Grade filter, and then narrow it down even further by applying another filter. For example, to find math lessons with animals for students in Kindergarten, start by searching for “animals” using the keyword search box. In the Subject Filter box on the left, click on “Mathematics” (the number in parenthesis indicates the number of lessons available within that subject), and then click on “Kindergarten” in the Grade Filter box below. You will then be presented with a list of lessons that fit the criteria you provided.
View and print
- Viewing a lesson: look for the magnifier icon on each lesson summary. Click on this icon to view the printable lesson full screen. From the full screen view you can zoom in and out using the flashpaper tool bar and scroll down the page using the flashpaper side scroll bar. To return to the summary view, click on the “Back to where you came from” link at the top left of the page.
- Printing a lesson: when you are viewing a lesson you want to print, click on the print icon at the top right under the arrow that says “Print with this button”. This will open your printer dialog box where you can specify the number of copies, which pages to print, and other printing preferences. Do not use the print option on your browser as this will cause the lessons to print incorrectly.
Organize
- Add to favorites: look for the heart icon on each lesson summary. Click on this link to bring up a small window that will ask you to which Folder you want to save the lesson. Create a new Folder, or click on an existing Folder. This is great for organizing lessons into different units or special files for struggling students. Visit the FAQ for more tips on using your Favorites.
- Download history: click on the Lesson Download History in the menu bar on the left. This will bring up a list of lessons you have viewed during past visits to your ClassroomZoom.com account. The default view shows each lesson’s summary; switch to titles only by clicking on the Titles Only link at the top right. You can also filter the list by subject or grade level by clicking on links below the menu bar on the left.
- Last viewed: a date at the bottom of every lesson summary shows the last time you viewed the lesson. Lessons that haven’t been viewed will not have a Last Viewed date.
